One of the most common questions I get when we get a cold snap is how do you cut siding in the cold without it cracking. I made a video today showing several different ways. Here are my thoughts: 1. I will use a combination of hand cutting and my Malco Turbo shears up until -15 C since I absolutely hate vinyl dust 2. If it’s below -15C, my recommendation would be the Dewalt 3” cut off tool simply because it’s a higher voltage and it has more power than the Milwaukee M12. The M12 batteries just don’t cut it in the extreme cold. I have used both full days in the winter and owned my M12 for a couple of years before I got the Dewalt. 3. If you don’t want to swap batteries out during the day, the Dewalt 60V grinder will last you all day cutting vinyl siding in the extreme cold. The disadvantage to this is it’s heavy, and there is no hook on it so you risk dropping it. You can get hooks for the M12 or Dewalt cut-off tool which you can hook onto your ladder, guardrail or tool belt. I have put weeks of working full days in -40 C temperatures over the years so I have tried MANY methods. I hope this video helps if you find yourself having to install in the cold. . . . . . . . . . . . . . #cuttingvinylsidingingthecold #protip #protips #vinylsidinginstallation #milwaukeecutofftool #dewaltcutofftool
