After using hand-me-down clubs most of my life, I finally bought my first real set of irons. They were preowned, but for the first time I picked exactly what I wanted. I picked some Mizuno MP33s I found for $100. They were hard to hit… but when you caught one out of the middle, it was the purest feeling in golf. Nothing like it. A few years later, after getting better and convincing myself to try something newer, I (regretfully) sold the Mizunos and bought Titleist 716 MBs. I gamed them for a season, but it didn’t take long for me to realize that I wished I had my old irons back. After a season I decided to try something different. I got the Takomo 301s. I liked them more than the Titleists and put the 716s up for sale. A few weeks later I get a Facebook message offering a trade. Usually those trade offers are for a dirt bike or an Xbox… but not this time. The guy offered Mizuno MP-20s straight up for the Titleists. I had flashbacks of hitting those irons in the store when they were Mizuno’s newest club. I couldn’t say no. I played the MP-20s side-by-side with the Takomos for a few weeks, and that was it. The feel was back. That same soft, pure sensation I’d been chasing ever since I sold the MP-33s.
