The markers do not reflect it, but relatives believe that some of the first burials were of family members who died during the flu epidemic in 1918 .6 A partial list of his family members has been furnished by Henry Martinez .7 His father came to Texas in 1910, crossing the bridge over the Rio Grande at Laredo. Eagle Mountain Lake, Chalk Hill, and Eagle Ford, where one son, James, farmed and operated a grist mill for many years. A daughter, Sarah, married Alexander Cockrell in 1847, and that couple also farmed in the west side of the county before moving to the village of Dallas and buying the unsold lots of John Neely.
